Original acrylic painting on 12×16 canvas. Mounted on gold wooden floater frame.
Introducing “Shakti rides to Dumbo”, Acrylic on 12x16 canvas, part of a new series I’m calling “Tourists”, aimed at capturing locations across the world that have influenced my life.
This painting depicts Shakti, the Hindu God of Strength and Resilience. The backdrop of this painting is inspired by the iconic Washington Street stretch of Dumbo, Brooklyn overlooking the Manhattan Bridge. As a bright eyed and bushy tailed twenty something year old many years ago, I walked these windy streets on many cold days to get to work and attend classes. The juxtaposition of 19th century industrial buildings renovated into loft style studios with Romanesque revival buildings was something I often stopped to take in. As a penniless student, it was also a time when every dollar had to be spent wisely which sometimes meant skipping dinner or opting to walk instead of taking the subway and like many immigrants who’ve built their lives in this country, those early days taught me a thing or two about resilience.
Speaking of resilience, this painting has a story..
On September 13th, 2025, I showed this painting as part of a group exhibition at BWAC Gallery. A week later, there was a massive fire at the building which damaged the works of hundreds of creators. Months later, this painting finally came back to me. The frame was damaged but the actual canvas survived the fire. After having it reframed, it’s now up for sale.
The fluorescent colors used in this painting have a distinct glow under black lights.
The full measurement is 13.5 inches x 17.5 inches including frame.
The actual canvas measures 12 inches x 16 inches.
The Original Painting comes on a wooden floater frame. It is ready to hang. See pictures for more details.
